(AP) - A police officer controls the crowd waiting their turn to enter the sanctuary of 'Gauchito Gil,' on the anniversary of the legendary figure's death, near Mercedes, in Argentina's Corrientes state, Sunday Jan. 8, 2012. 'Gauchito Gil' is part of Argentina's popular culture. He was an 1800's outlaw who became a mystical symbol of bravery; stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. Born Antonio Mamerto Gil Nunez in Corrientes in the 1840's he was executed on Jan. 8, 1878. Every year more than 100,000 people visit his sanctuary on the date of his death, to leave offerings and ask for favors at the shrine where he was allegedly executed. (AP Photo/Natacha Pisarenko)
